testing bakelite
Oct 1 2007, 11:23 AM EDT Simichrome metal polish works too. Put a little on a q-tip and rub it on the item in question. If it is bakelite it will turn a deep yellow, like a cigerette butt.

RE: testing bakelite
Sep 13 2008, 9:29 PM EDT You can also use the Dow bathroom cleaner "Scrubbing Bubbles" the same way as the Simichrome...spray a small bit in the sink and take a Q-tip with a little scrubbing bubbles on it and rub it on the item in question. If it is bakelite it will turn a deep yellow, like a cigerette butt. Scrubbing Bubble is easier to get than simichrome too.
