Did they give you a particular reason for ending it? Even though my subscription had expired, I was still buying it on the newsstand at a higher price. I surely will miss it! Some of the best ideas I got for decorating, cooking, and just enjoying life at home came from the pages of Country Home for the last 25 years!

I'm glad you asked that, as I haven't found it anywhere either over the past months--from what I can tell from the web site, it looks like there haven't been any new issues since April 2009. Too bad- one of my favorite mags!

To update your kitchen inexpensively, well placed color can be painted to tie the elements of this activity hub together. Cabinetry, backsplashes, furniture, lighting, trim and even the floor are fair game. Cabinetry can take a whole new life when spruced up. Refinishing with stain can lend new life to a tired wood. Whitewashing or distressing woods are great ways to lend a more cottage or relaxed feel to the kitchen. Diverse textures and effects are available depending on the techniques employed. Painting the inlays or individual panels are some other ideas. Painting the backsplash, whether it be tile or wall, can be a more economical approach to achieve a new face in your kitchen. Hand painted murals, pinstripes or checkers can add individuality to the kitchen. Chalkboard paint can put recipes or shopping lists close at hand while creating a hip café-like atmosphere. Or use the backsplash as a monochromatic reflection of the cabinetry, appliances, countertops and walls. Don’t forget trim, lighting and the floor as other options for painting. Painted trim can be a lovely contrast to the room making your wall color pop. Painting the chandlier, lighting fixtures, or space above the kitchen lighting can change the mood of the room. Nearly any flooring surface - concrete, wood, ceramic tile, sheet vinyl, vinyl tile, etc. - that is in moderately good shape can be painted. Depending on foot traffic, different paint types and additives may be required. To ensure easy cleanup, do be sure to have a durable semi-gloss or gloss in the areas where grease is prevalent. Use sites like Remodeleze.com to review projects of interior designers and perform your own color studies to find the color that suits your kitchen. Creatively unify the activities of the kitchen with complimentary or contrasting colors. Painting the kitchen, whether it be the minute details or the whole thing, gives a brand new face to your kitchen.

could anyone tell me how to distinguish a miniature painting on ivory from one painted on porcelain? there must be something simple to distinguish between the porcelain and the ivory, if you are handling something for the first time. Thank you.

I have recently been given this figure for repair, it is missing a hand and a thumb on the left hand, I've searched vigourously on the net and have found no pictures or information about it. Its a young girl, brown hair in ringlets, with a red head band, bohemian garment down to her waste and the breasts are bare, she is sitting on a brown stool, reading a book with what it looks like as knitting...........I'm unsure if its chalkware or plaster.... Can anyone help?.....Much appreciated if anyone can.....

I hope this helps!
If you are preparing to remodel your bathroom then we have some important tips for you to follow during the process. The first tip for remodeling your bathroom is to turn off the water if you are replacing the sink. This is an obvious action to take but believe it or not, some people will forget to turn off the water when replacing a sink. Replacing a sink is a tough job to perform because you will be pulling it away from the wall or out of a cabinet, which means you need to be careful. Removing a sink can cause holes in the wall or broken cabinets.
The second tip for remodeling a bathroom is to replace the floor tiles along with the sink. If you do replace the floor tiles make sure you measure twice and cut only once. If you measure once, you might make a mistake and waste some of the tiles. Another tip is to put a window into your bathroom if at all possible. Poor ventilation in a bathroom can lead to mold and mildew because of the constant use of water in the shower. If you cannot install a window in the bathroom make sure you install a ventilation fan. Ventilation fans on the market today are quieter, more powerful, and more effective in removing moistness from the room.

Was just to a web-site in Niagra Falls when I read about the over 200 years old carved eagle and they were wondering where it had it's beginnings?? So I have suggested perhaps one of the Bellamy eagles from Maine.I was fortunate to grow up at Pepperrell Cove in Kittery Point, Maine living next door to the wood carving shop where Bellamy carved his beautiful eagles!! "In the 1830s, a tiny amount of Gothic-inspired decoration appeared." We have been collecting the Gothic Revival for about 15 years, and while we have many pieces of Gothic Revival flatware from several countries, I have never seen a piece from the 1830s. Can anyone provide further reference, or better yet a picture?

I have a bust of a unmarked victorian girl reading a book. She is definately chalk. She is wearing a lace hat and lace collar. Cream in color with a brown glaze. Her left elbow is resting on top of two books and she is reading a book. Looks like she may be about 1910-1920. The number 1431 is pressed on the back of the bust on the top book that her elbow is resting on. It looks like the letter "N" is on the bottom. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I haven't had any luck in my research.
