Out of This World: Shaker Design Past, Present, and Future New York, New York March 13–June 14 www.bgc.bard.edu (note: needs www)Explore 200 years of Shaker design and spirituality in this Bard Graduate Center exhibition of more than 150 pieces from museums and private collections. Divided into five galleries, the exhibit examines relationships between Shaker and contemporary design from the 19th through 21st centuries and includes Shaker-made goods, classic and contemporary furniture, and rarely-seen spiritually inspired gift drawings.
Maple Sugaring Tamworth, New Hampshire March 15 remickmuseum.org Visitors are in for a sweet treat at Remick Museum’s annual Maple Sugaring event. Learn about maple trees, collecting sap and boiling it down to syrup, and how Native Americans introduced the process to early European settlers. Don’t forget to sample the maple cream, maple jelly, candy, and sugar-on-snow, a delicious confection usually served with sour pickles or doughnuts.
Arts of Pacific Asia Show New York, New York March 21–24 caskeylees.com This Asian art fair returns to the 69th Regiment Armory for its 17th year with 72 exhibitors from the U.S. and abroad. Come for a wine-and-hors d’oeuvres preview on March 20; regular show days begin March 21. The show features several new dealers, bringing jade, jewelry, snuff bottles, and Chinese ceramics, porcelain, and furniture.
Atlantique City Atlantic City, New Jersey March 29–30 atlantiquecity.com If you’re a collector with an eye for the unusual, Atlantique City at the Atlantic City Convention Center is the place to be. Dealers from the U.S., Great Britain, and Europe convene in one location to display fine arts such as Tiffany lamps, fine furniture, Asian art, and period antiques from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Additional collections include rare estate jewelry, vintage toys, and even circus memorabilia.

Gardening aficionados will love the thousands of blossoms, plants, and trees that create this springtime paradise. The show’s nine landscaped gardens utilize watering techniques and plant materials requiring minimal watering. Take in more than 200 exhibits displaying lawn and garden products, seminars every hour, an art exhibit, lectures, and concerts. Held at Century II in downtown Wichita.

The Quad City Expo Center hosts a diverse group of regional dealers displaying a wide variety of collectibles at this antiques extravaganza. Antiques from around the world include stoneware, books, art pottery, toys, coins, and postcards. Fabric lovers will find plenty of collectible rugs and vintage textiles.
Chicagoland Flower & Garden Show Rosemont, Illinois March 8–16 chicagolandflowerandgarden.com This annual showcase is back and bigger than ever, with a juried art show and an adjacent Home Lifestyle Expo featuring furniture, windows and doors, lighting, and do-it-yourself products. Other highlights include theme gardens, gardening seminars on growing techniques and landscaping options, and culinary demonstrations starring home-grown garden ingredients. Held at Stephens Convention Center.
Audubon Pilgrimage St. Francisville, Louisiana March 14–16 audubonpilgrimage.info This annual pilgrimage returns for its 37th year to celebrate the life of John James Audubon, the wildlife artist who attempted to paint all the birds in America. Tour three historic homes highlighting 19th-century architecture with an emphasis on restoration for modern living. Stop by the antiques show and find silver, porcelain, furniture, folk art, jewelry, crystal, and antique rugs.
Azalea Quilt Show Tyler, Texas March 28–29 qgetx.org “Hat’s off to Quilting” at the 27th annual Azalea Quilt Show. View some 250 old and new quilts in contemporary and traditional designs, plus a wearables exhibit, a showcase of machine-embroidered quilts, and a rug-hooking display. Shop the Merchant Mall and learn new techniques through live demonstrations of hand quilting, quilt-related lectures, and other exhibitions. Held at Harvey Convention Center.

Artist interviews, background information, and stories accompany works by 60 traditional and contemporary artists. Charleston International Antiques Show Charleston, South Carolina March 14–16 historiccharleston.org There’s no limit to the exploring you can do during Charleston’s Antique Week. A major event for festival-goers is the International Antiques Show, featuring more than 30 of the nation’s most notable antiques dealers. The Festival of Houses and Gardens kicks off the weekend and runs until April 12. Tour private residences and gardens of historic homes in colonial and antebellum neighborhoods.
15th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival Lake Buena Vista, Florida March 19–June 1 disneyworld.com/flower This 75-day event offers something magical to both children and parents. Some 70 topiaries resemble Disney characters, including a 14-foot Goofy riding a wave of flowers and plants, Donald Duck and Daisy in a volleyball beach scene, and Mickey and Minnie lounging on a beach towel. Peter Pan’s Neverland Garden showcases a pirate ship-themed garden with a shaded play structure. Parents learn from celebrity guest speakers on gardening, hands-on seminars, and planting demonstrations, and enjoy evening entertainment.
Deering Seafood Festival Miami, Florida March 30 deeringestate.org The seafood is fresh and the bands are jammin’ at the 4th annual Deering Seafood Festival. The Ruffhouse Jamaican Reggae and Bahamian Junkanoo bands provide entertainment to accompany boat rides on Biscayne Bay, cooking demonstrations, and kid-friendly fun at the Little Shrimp Kids Zone. Artisan Cheese Festival Petaluma, California March 7–10

Monte Vista Crane Festival Monte Vista, Colorado March 7–9 cranefest.com Join other bird and nature lovers in welcoming sandhill cranes on their “spring break” in Monte Vista. About 20,000 birds rest in the area during their trip from the South to the North. Wildlife experts, naturalists, and biologists will present educational workshops. Special tours feature raptor identification and sunset crane-viewing trips. Enjoy a craft fair and dinner with live entertainment.
3rd Annual Country and Folk Art Antiques Show Costa Mesa, California March 8–9 californiacountryshow.com Exclusively featuring country and folk art, this antiques show is the ideal setting for viewing private collections rarely on display for the general public. In addition to the not-for-sale exhibit, You’ll find more than 50 dealers from across the country selling textiles, pottery, formal furniture, garden elements, architecturals, and clocks. Held at the Orange County Fair & Events Center.
18th Annual Festival of the West Phoenix, Arizona March 13–16 festivalofthewest.com This Wild West celebration is all about Western culture and life. From a Western trade show to cowboy poetry, this festival offers wide array of events and entertainment. A log home show highlights cabin accessories and information on log-home building, and a Western film festival features chats with Western film stars. Swing your partner ’round and ’round at a square dance and enjoy the Arizona Gunfighters’ historic reenactments. Held Rawhide at Wild Horse Pass, a reconstructed wild West town.
Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of the West Invitational Show & Sale Wickenburg, Arizona March 27–May 4 cowgirlupart.com/museum.htm Desert Caballeros Western Museum presents this gathering of Western women artists to recognize their contributions to art. The celebration begins with “Cowgirl Up! Boot Camp,” a trail ride and chuck-wagon dinner. The Invitational Show & Sale features nearly 200 works by 57 artists.
