Since its inception in 1967, the annual St. Mary’s County Oyster Festival has grown to become one of the Eastern Seaboards’ leading regional folk festivals. Held at St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds, the festival is home to the U.S. National Oyster Shucking Championships and the National Oyster Cook-Off Contest. Each year visitors from across the country attend this event for quality entertainment, the two nationally recognized contests and, of course, oysters galore—raw, stewed, fried, or scalded—plus plenty of other regional specialties.
