Featured in the book 1,000 Places to See in the U.S. and Canada Before You Die, this event features activities exploring Vermont’s first crop, maple sugar, from the 1600s through 2009. Pieces selected from Dr. Patricia T. Herr’s collection of Pennsylvania-German Vintage Hooked Rugs will be showcased at the Fulton Decorative Arts Gallery. The methods by which these rugs were made and their history will be examined, giving the visitor the opportunity to admire the beauty of these handmade items, as well as learn about the resourcefulness of the women who made them from scraps of fabric and yarn.

This 75-day event offers something magical to both children and parents alike. Some 70 topiaries resemble Disney characters, including a 14-foot Goofy riding a wave of flowers and plants, Donald Duck and Daisy in the volleyball beach scene, and Mickey and Minnie lounging on a beach towel. Parents can learn from celebrity guest speakers on gardening, hands-on seminars, and planting demonstrations and enjoy evening entertainment.

The 38th Annual Audubon Pilgrimage celebrates the time during the 1820s when the naturalist painter John James Audubon lived in West Feliciana Parish. Guided tours of Rosebank, Wyoming, and Fairview Town House will give visitors an intimate glimpse of the lives of those who lived in and tended them in the past. Other events include a high-end antiques show and sale, period dancing, graveyard tales in Grace Church Yard, hymn singing at the Methodist Church, a wine and cheese reception, and a Saturday night soiree with live music and fine food.

This annual four-day event offers a rare opportunity to view the interiors of beautiful homes and courtyard gardens in Savannah’s National Landmark Historic District. Different self-guided walking tours are available each day along with a variety of special events. Proceeds from the Tour of Homes support the community missions of the Women of Christ Church and the preservation projects of the Historic Savannah Foundation.
