Golden Gate Expo 1939 CorkscrewThe 2008 Spring Meeting of the Golden Gate Corkscrew Collectors (GGCC) is being hosted by Bob & Susan Bortfeld on Sunday, April 27th, at Testarossa Vineyards in Los Gatos, CA. The GGCC is a group of West Coast corkscrew collectors which meets a couple of times a year to brag and barter over corkscrews and wine antiques. The GGCC is based in the San Francisco Bay area and has been meeting since November 1999.

This spring’s gathering will be at Testarossa Vineyards at the Historic Novitiate Winery in the hills above Los Gatos. In addition to a Wine Tasting and Lunch on the estate’s patio, collectors will share their corkscrew finds. This year the theme is souvenir corkscrews from the World’s Fairs and Expositions, especially from the San Francisco Pan-Pacific Exposition of 1915 and the Golden Gate Exposition and World's Fair of 1939/40 on Treasure Island.

Later, there will be a presentation, Fakes In Our Midst, by Dean Walters, noted collector and dealer in wine antiques, about corkscrew fakes, forgeries and reproductions, a topic that is both timely and important.

For more information contact Bob Bortfeld at (408) 399-9090 or at bbortfeld@comcast.net. More detailed information is also posted on the GGCC Yahoo! Groups site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GoldenGateCorkscrewCollectors/
